ROSE HILL, Va. (WUSA) -- Police say two people helped a Fairfax County Police officer who was trapped in his car after a crash in Rose Hill on Monday morning.
The driver of the striking car, Jeffrey M. Woods of Alexandria, died after his Infiniti struck the police cruiser shortly before 3 a.m. at Franconia Road (Rt. 644), and Gum Street. The officer was traveling eastbound on Franconia near Gum Street when a 2006 Infiniti, which was traveling westbound, swerved to the left and hit the cruiser head-on, bursting into flames.
Police say they learned during the investigation that two people pulled the 7-year veteran police officer out of his vehicle, and he was able to call for help. The police officer was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The second Good Samaritan they describe as a male teenage with dark hair. They want to find him so that they can thank him.
They also want anyone who may have taken video of the scene before police showed up to also contact them.
