MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA) -- Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, and his newly announced choice for VP running mate, Wisconsin Representative Paul Ryan are hitting the campaign trail in four notoriously known swing states.

They wrapped up their Virginia tour Saturday evening after a stop in Old Town Manassas. Thousands poured into the Harris Pavilion to hear the GOP duo address the scores of crowds.

Less than 24-hours after announcing Ryan as his running mate Romney said, "Today was a good day for me I got to tell ya... It was also a good day for America...with Paul Ryan as the nominee for Vice President."

Ryan was quick to go on the attack of President Obama accusing him of setting the country back.

"If we do this right, and we re-apply those principles that build this country...we will get our country back November 6th."

Ryan was welcomed with cheers and hugs at the Manassas rally, but he doesn't enter the race for the White House without controversy.

The Huffington Post refered to him as an "Architect of Deeply Controversial Budget Plans."

A staunch republican, Ryan has vowed to cut government spending by more than 5-billion dollars in the next 10 years. He has also been vocal about restructuring the Medicare system, and turning it into a voucher program.

Virginia, Florida, South Carolina, and Ohio are all swing states the GOP has identified as must win states if they intend to beat the Obama campaign in November.
