BOSTON, MA (WUSA) -- In a press release issued early Saturday morning, Mitt Romney made it official: Rep. Paul Ryan will be his running mate ending weeks of speculation about the No. 2 slot on the GOP ticket.

The release issued by Romney's press office goes on to provide a biography of the Wisconsin congressman who gained national attention when he unveiled his "Roadmap for America's Future," a proposal to eliminate the federal deficit, reform the tax code, and overhaul Medicare, the government-run health insurance aprogram for senior citizens.

Ryan, 42, is the chairman of the House Budget Committee.

Romney is set to make the announcement in person at the U.S.S. Wisconsin in Norfolk, Virginia, before setting out on a tour of key swing states to highlight his economic plans for the middle class.

Romney and Ryan's tour will come to Manassas, Virginia, Saturday afternoon to the Harris Pavillion.
