BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA) -- The website for Walter Reed National Military Medical Center shows that all appointments at the center "have been suspended until 13:00."
The Daily Caller reported that a woman who answered the phone inside the medical center said there was a threat and another person told the Daily Caller building 19 was being evacuated.
We were then able to get an email sent to staff at Walter Reed Bethesda which read:
In response to a security concern we are currently in a Code BLACK level of security. As a result, building 19 (American Building) no personnel, patients or visitors are allowed in this building and no one is allowed to leave.
All emergency-essential personnel should make contact with their chain of command immediately. All pre-designated Code BLACK personnel should report to their assigned locations immediately.
All other personnel should remain in their department and continue the plan of the day. Tenant Commands and Base Organizations should activate their respective Code BLACK protocols at this time.
Code BLACK will remain in effect until further notice and additional information will be shared with WRNMMC personnel through their Chain of Command and WRNMMC postmasters."
We have a crew headed to the scene to gather more details. Once we have additional information we will post it here.
