ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA) -- The Dupont Metro station has reopened but Metro is still having problems on Monday morning.
The Dupont Metro station was closed due to an escalator outage. Metro tweeted on Monday morning: "Dupont Circle station is closed all entrance escalators are out of service due to a mechanical problem."
At 8:01 a.m. Metro gave an update: "Dupont Circle station entrance remains closed due to escalator mechanical problems; trains bypassing. Consider Farragut North." Metro requested shuttle service between Woodley Park and Farragut North.
Stessel explained that "any time we have reduced escalator capacity, the station is closed." According to Stessel, Metro usually wants three working escalators during peak hours. Any less than that and the station is closed. Note: the South Entrance is closed already for a long-term escalator rehabilitation project.
Escalator technicians worked on the problem and around 8:45 a.m. the station was reopened. Two out of three escalators are now working.
Around 8:44 a.m., Metro reported that Blue Line trains were single tracking between Braddock Road and Van Dorn Street due to a disabled train at Braddock Road. Riders were told to expect delays in both directions. Around 9:22 a.m. a Metrorail Alert said that normal service had resumed at Braddock Road.
Metro trains were single tracking Monday morning between Arlington Cemetery and Foggy Bottom on the Blue Line due to a track problem. There were delays up to 20 minutes, according to Metro officials. They suggested riders use the Yellow Line instead. Around 7:25 a.m., Metro reported that trains were no longer single tracking, but that riders should expect residual delays.
At 7:48 a.m. Metro said that a disabled Orange Line train was on the move from Court House. Two trains behind it were servicing the station. Metro reported a 15 minute "service gap downtown." New Carrollton-bound Orange Line trains were delayed due to the train experiencing a brake problem at Court House.
As far as bus troubles, Metro also tweeted: "N3, N4: Due to an earlier accident at Western Ave & River Rd, leaving glass debris on the roadway, buses may experience delays." Also a missing manhole cover at 9th Street and Kansas Avenue NW was expected to possibly delay buses there.
