(WUSA) -- Great Falls is getting closer and closer to Williamsport.
Jason Volpicelli belted two home runs to lead Great Falls (Va) to a 12-1 victory over Irmo, South Carolina. The game played in front of 418 fans was called after four innings because of the little league "mercy rule," which calls for the game to end if one team is ahead by 10 runs or more after four innings.
The offensive explosion didn't come as a surprise to Great Falls manager, Ryan Novak.
"We're a hitting team, and we pride ourselves on that," said Novak. "Jason got us started, and we kind of took it from there."
"I was kind of upset with my game yesterday, didn't do very good," said Jason Volpicelli. "I was just going in there hoping to spark something for our team."
Volpicelli definitely was a spark, leading off the game with a solo home run to give Great Falls a lead they would never relinquish.
The short stop added a three-run home run in the second, and the rout was on.
Great Falls leads pool A in the Southeast region with a 2-0 record. The team will now play winless Shinnston (WV) on Monday at 7pm.
