DAMASCUS, Md. (WUSA) - A woman was shot through the head with an arrow on Tuesday night, according to Montgomery County Fire & Rescue.
The woman, in her 20s, was flown to a local trauma center for treatment. She is expected to fully recover. According to her sister, who contacted 9News Now, she was released from the hospital on Wednesday with no major injury.
The incident took place at about 8:36 p.m. Tuesday in the 10400 block of Moxley Rd. in Damascus. The injury is believed to be accidental, according to Montgomery County Fire & Rescue. The arrow may have been shot from a cross bow.
9News Now's Matt Jablow reports that the woman was shot by someone who was practicing archery. The arrow ricocheted off something, striking the woman, who was a bystander, in the head.
Police say no charges are expected to be filed because the incident is considered to be an accident. They also say it is legal to use a bow on private property as long as you have the homeowner's consent.
