Kelly Gordon Gilliss Arrested For Shooting Police Officer At Galaxy Nightclub In Hyattsville, Md.

HYATTSVILLE, Md. (WUSA) -- A police officer is out of surgery and back home after being shot in the leg early Saturday.

The shooting happened at Galaxy Nightclub in the 2000 block of University Blvd. shortly after 1 a.m. Prince George's County police officer Rachael Jacob was off-duty and working as a security guard at the club.

According to police, she escorted three customers out of the nightclub for disorderly conduct. Shortly after, 32-year-old Kelly Gordon Gilliss drove up to the club entrance in a white Honda, reached out of the passenger door window and began firing towards Officer Jacob.

One of the bullets stroke her in the leg and she was immediately transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injures.

Other officers on location fired back at the vehicle and gave chase. Kelly Gordon Gillis and two females were apprehended a short distance away. The gun was also recovered. 

Gilliss, of Cherry Hill Rd. in Beltsville, was charged with:

  • 3 counts of attempt murder
  • 3 counts of first-degree assault
  • 3 counts of second-degree assault
  • 3 counts of discharge of firearm from vehicle
  • 1 count of concealed deadly weapon
