(WUSA) -- Cpl. Rickie Adey with Prince George's County Police is being charged with first degree assault, second degree assault and misconduct in office.

Adey was credited with helping to save half a dozen people for an apartment fire in District Heights earlier this month.

On August 4, 2011, at approximately 11:50 p.m., Adey responded to the 6900 block of Walker Mill Road in Capitol Heights  for the sound of gunshots. He sawa large group of individuals running from the scene and confronted a 13-year-old who admitted he was attempting to elude police by attempting to climb over a six-foot-high fence. Adey pulled the teen from the fence and assaulted him. The teenager sustained minor injuries as a result of the alleged assault.

Corporal Adey is a ten-year veteran of the Department. He was suspended immediately after the Grand Jury's findings. A suspension hearing is scheduled for next week and Adey's pay status will be determined.

An indictment shows the August 2011 assault allegations against Adey. You can see the indictment in PDF format here (http://on.wusa9.com/OiqfxA).
