Homeless Man Set On Fire On St. Louis Street

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - A 40-year-old man described by police as homeless was doused with gasoline and set on fire early Friday in south St. Louis.

Investigators say the unidentified victim was transported to an area hospital where he's listed in critical, but stable condition with extensive burns.

Police were called to help a person in the 3900 block of Illinois Avenue around 1:45 Friday morning. Upon arrival, police located the man set ablaze and a garage also burning behind a home at 3939 Illinois.

Firefighters responded and extinguished the fires and paramedics took the victim to the hospital. Overhead power lines were also burned in the garage fire and more than 50 Ameren customers in the area were without power.

Police have no motive or suspects indentified in the attack.
