FREDERICK, Md. (WUSA) -- Maryland State Police say a tractor trailer lost its tire and hit another tractor trailer, which then traveled down an embankment and overturned early Thursday morning.
Shortly before 1 a.m., state police say troopers were investigating an overturned tractor trailer on westbound MD 140 (Taneytown Pike) west of Midlle Creek when they determined that 42-year-old Jeffrey Leiton lost control of his tractor trailer while traveling eastbound after a tire came off of another tractor trailer. Leiton's vehicle went down and embankment and overturned into a cornfield, trapping him for hours until rescue crews could free him.
Leiting had serious but non-life threatening injuries and was taken to UMD Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.
The road is closed at the scene of the accident for crews to remove the tractor trailer.
