WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- On Sunday afternoon, Pepco said that overnight its crews completed power restoration to the last customers who were affected by the severe storm and power outage on June 29.
At one time, Pepco had more than 443,000 customers without service. Pepco says about 3,000 people helped restore the majority of power to customers in the DC region by July 4. It cites tree damage as a reason for "impeded progress" and says the damage "made repairs more challenging."
Crews were given about 260 electric poles and 170 transformers to make repairs. Pepco says that number "is considerably more than was needed for restoration after either Hurricane Isabel or Irene."
Crews put in a total estimated 300,000 hours to restore power to customers. Pepco says crews were given hotel rooms, meals, water and energy drinks as well as 376,000 pounds of ice to combat heat.
