(USA TODAY) -- Bryce Harper will be on the National League All-Star team after all.

After learning the Miami Marlins' Giancarlo Stanton will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, Major League Baseball announced his replacement will be the Nationals young phenom.

At age 19, Harper becomes the youngest position player to make an All-Star roster.

In 62 games this year, the Nationals outfielder is hitting .283 with eight home runs and 25 RBI. Harper is also considered one of the top candidates for the NL Rookie of the Year award.

The Washington Nationals released this statement from Harper via their twitter account @Nationals:

"It's all for the fans. I'm just going to try to enjoy myself and put on a good show for them," - Harper on #ASG selection

As for Stanton, the Marlins have said they expect their outfielder to be out four to six weeks because of the injury.

The sluggers injury also means the National League needs a replacement for Stanton in the Home Run Derby.

The MLB has announced that the Pittsburgh Pirates' Andrew McCutchen will be the hitter added.

The 25-year-old center fielder has 16 home runs this season and has led the Pirates to an impressive 47-37 record that has them sitting atop the NL Central.
