'Runaway Vehicle' At Vienna Whole Foods Hits 5 Cars, Signs, Bushes Before Being Stopped By Tree

VIENNA, Va. (WUSA) -- A driver was charged with failure to maintain control after her car accelerated out of a Whole Foods parking lot space and then into several vehicles, bushes, signs and a cable box on Monday.

According to Vienna police, the driver was pulling out a parking space at 143 Maple Ave., SE Monday afternoon when he car accelerated. Police say the driver did not know what to do and her car struck another vehicle, pushing that vehicle onto a curb. Then, "the runaway vehicle" drove over bushes and two Whole Food signs before entering Maple Avenue. The car then drove back into the parking lot and back over bushes. Four more cars were hit as well as a Whole Foods sign and a Verizon cable box. 

Police say a tree finally stopped the vehicle.

The driver's name was not immediately available.
