LA PLATA, Md. (AP) - Speed cameras are coming to Charles County.
The Charles County Sheriff's Office expects to launch the new program on July 9 at nine school zones. The sheriff's office says the program is designed to reduce driver speeds.
There will be a 30-day warning phase, during which motorists who exceed the speed limit by 12 miles per hour or more in county school zones will receive warning notices. Afterward, a fine of $40 will be a given to motorists who exceed the posted speed limit. No license points will be assigned, and the citations are not reported to insurance companies.
