SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA) -- Dominion reported that it had 78,000 customers still without power in Northern Virginia. BGE's website showed 159,000 of its Maryland customers without power. Pepco had a total of 121,000 customers in DC and Maryland without power.
Now one Pepco customer, who is in Silver Spring, is especially mad. He says the utility set his cars on fire.
Montgomery County Fire crews were called to the 2900 block of Woodstock Ave. at 8:40 a.m. on Tuesday for a report of burning wires on a car which caught the car on fire. When firefighters arrived, they found two vehicles on fire and called for more help as a precaution.
Fire officials tell us that a massive tree fell Friday, which was entwined with wires. The homeowner says that a Pepco inspector was sent out to note the damage and noticed the wires down between the cars. Then, according to the homeowner, Pepco charged the lines on Tuesday morning while they were still down, sparking the fire.
The homeowner, his wife, 84-year-old grandmother and their four cats were there when the fire broke out but all got out of the way safely. Fire rescue helped remove pets from the home and insured there was no fire inside the house.
Fire investigators have been requested to the scene, say officials.
