WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA)- One person was killed early Saturday in Northwest DC after his car came in contact with a live wire.
PEPCO officials told 9 News Now that a tree fell across the street, dislodging the wire, which then fell on the man's car. The live wire set fire to the vehicle. The car then caught on fire. The victim was attempting to put the fire out when he was killed.
A second person was critically injured trying to help.
"Our thoughts are with the victims of this tragic event and their families" said PEPCO President Thomas Graham. He stressed that every down line should be treated as if it was still live, and should be immediately reported to 1-877-PEPCO62.
Saturday's incident is under investigation. The victims have not been identified.
