WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Expect delays on I-66 west and I-495 if traveling late Friday night or early Saturday. Three lanes on both highways will close from 10 p.m. on Friday, June 29 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 30, for repairs.
Major delays are expected after midnight when the fourth lane will close for 30 minutes at a time. Commuters should expect to be be at a standstill between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m.
Crews will close Exit 49, traffic on I-495 south to I-66 west will be directed to Exit 52B, Little River Turnpike (Route 236) east. Follow signage to I-495 north to Exit 49A, I-66 west.
Alternative: The 495 Express Lanes, two new high occupancy toll lanes, will provide a faster and more direct option for high-occupancy vehicles and toll-paying customers on each direction.
