WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) - When the decision was made to close DC General Hospital, city leaders formed the Health Care Alliance. Today the health care system insures and treats virtually everyone---even undocumented workers and their families.

WUSA9's Bruce Johnson was at a Unity health care clinic in Southeast on Wednesday, where he says some 81 thousand patients in the District make visits to the clinics.  

Ricardo Robinson is a 25 year old unemployed construction worker. One of many uninsured people who count on A Unity health care clinic for primary medical services.

The non profit Unity team operates the largest primary health care agency in the area. They've gone from treating the homeless in the shelters and streets to treating an entire class of under served, uninsured and working poor.

Vincent Keane, President of Unity Health is a big advocate of Universal health care and the President's plan to require everyone to have insurance:

This clinic and much of the care inside it is already made possible by federal dollars and city funds from elected leaders already sold on Universal health care.
