FORT BELVOIR, Va. (WUSA) -- A new commander was welcomed at Fort Belvoir in a ceremony outside the post headquarters in Fairfax County, Va.

Fort Belvoir Garrison Commander Colonel John J. Strycula handed over his command on Monday to Colonel Greg Gadson.

Gadson played football as a cadet at West Point and served in Afghanistan and Iraq. He was wounded in Iraq in 2007, and is the first bi-lateral amputee to command an Army installation.

Colonel John J. Strycula's next assignment will take him to Afghanistan.
