Tampa (WTSP) -- 10 News acquired video of a young Pit Bull barely alive and left to die.
The animal was found stuffed into bushes outside an abandoned duplex in Sulphur Springs.
Dusty Showers was working in the neighborhood and saw the animal out of the corner of his eye.
Showers says he took video as he slowly approached what was clearly a young Brindle Pit Bull with fur ripped clean off its head and puncture wounds on its legs.
They immediately contacted Hillsborough County Animal Services.
Showers says an animal services investigator questioned residents who said that the animal was thrown in between two fighting dogs as bait.
When the dog was non-compliant, they threw hot water on it.
People in this neighborhood would not discuss who is responsible out of fear of retaliation, but did tell investigators dog fights happen nightly.
The dog is not at Animal Services and has received medical treatment. Its wounds have been sutured, and if it survives, will be placed up for adoption.
Investigators are asking for any information that can lead them to the people responsible.
