COLUMBIA, Md. (WUSA) - About 50 firefighters were called to the scene of a Columbia house fire on Tuesday night, according to the Howard County Dept. of Fire & Rescue Services.
Just after 7 p.m., crews responded to a fire in the 6300 block of Scarlet Petal, where they found smoke and fire in the front of the home. A second alarm was dispatched, and it took approximately 50 firefighters working for about 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze.
One resident was at home when the fire started. She was alerted by neighbors and escaped without injury. A total of three residents were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
The fire remains under investigation. Fire officials estimate initial damages at $150,000.
