ARLINGTON, VA (WUSA) -- Pentagon Police are trying out those airport body scanners -- despite a viral video that suggests they are easily defeated.
The Pentagon Force Protection Agency says it's well aware of a Florida blogger's video that purports to show him easily fooling similar scanners at two different airports.
"We're not relying on this instrument solely. We're looking at a number of different approaches," says the agency's Daniel Walsh.
The scanners only take images front and back. "The search victim is drawn in light colors with black background in both images," says Jonathan Corbett in his video
Any threats are black too, so Corbett says he sewed a pocket in his side, put a heavy metal carrying case in it, and says he was able to slip right through security.
We wanted to see if we could replicate the blogger found. So we took some keys, put them in a sunglass case, put them right at the side of my body and walked through.
The Pentagon scanner had no trouble picking up my contraband.
"There was a sunglass case clipped to the side of your right pocket," said the operator.
Luckily, they don't show me naked.
"No security system is 100 percent perfect," says Walsh of the Pentagon police. "We would buy it if it existed."
But at least our crude attempt failed to defeat the Rapiscan system the Pentagon's trying out.
The TSA says its tested the scanners successfully thousands of times. And it says they are the best available technology for detecting explosives.
