  • June Lim, Owner Of Grace Deli, Found Dead Inside Store; Police Investigating Case As Homicide

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) -- Friday afternoon, people gathered outside Grace Deli to remember the beloved owner of the store who was shot and killed Thursday.

June Lim, the beloved owner of the Grace Deli at 7th and H St. in Northeast Washington, was shot in the neck and killed Thursday morning inside her own store. Police say it appears to be a robbery, but they have few leads as to who's responsible.

"Why couldn't the individual or individuals have taken the money and left?" said Peter Lim, June's son. "My parents were planning to retire and sell their home and business and move out to the Eastern Shore and live out their days. She was three months away from becoming a grandmother."

The 64-year-old had started her day just like every other day since she bought the deli eight years ago: she pulled up in her red Toyota Camry and opened the front gate.
"Her car is parked out front, which means she was unloading supplies and apparently somebody must have followed her in," said Peter Lim.

Police say they have hardly any information about who that someone is. Whoever it was was long gone by the time the first employee showed up for work and found her body behind the counter.

"There's not a lot that I can say about what was inside at this time. We are still processing the scene, but we will say there were no signs of forced entry," said Lt. Robert Alder with the Metropolitan Police Department.
But there are plenty of signs outside the store that show just how much June meant to her customers. Posters that read, "We will miss your smile June," have been taped all over the Grace Deli.

"It's like we lost a family member," said one customer. "She knows your voice when you call and place your order. It's just a great loss for us today."

"She knows all her regular customers by name. She knew what their drinks were, what their regular foods were. That was her way of showing she cared," said Peter Lim.

The police department offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that gives information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide in DC. If you have any information, please call the police at 202-727-9099 or send a message to the TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.
