FREDERICK, Md. (WUSA) -- A man died while walking across the road in Frederick, after a car hit him, police said.
Police are not identifying the pedestrian who was killed in the collision on eastbound Maryland Route 26 at Kingfisher Drive, in Frederick, Md. But they do say that a 27-year-old was driving a Volkswagen Jetta east on Maryland Route 26 at Kingfisher Drive when he struck the pedestrian crossing the roadway.
According to police, the pedestrian was walking north attempting to cross the eastbound lanes of Rt. 26 when he was struck.
Police say the Jetta kept traveling eastbound before turning around at Waterside Drive and coming back to scene. The driver found the pedestrian lying in the road and called 911.
EMS personnel who arrived at the scene pronounced the pedestrian dead. The pedestrian has been identified as 49-year-old Dennis Michael Danko of Frederick.
Authorities closed the road for almost two hours to investigate.
The roadway was closed for approximately two hours for the investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or events is asked to call Trooper Shrout at 301-600-6178.
