WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Legal pot in DC may now be just weeks away.

 The DC Department Of Health says it has notified applicants who are eligible to register for a medical marijuana dispensary in the city.

A panel, Advisory Neighborhood Commission members and DOH Director Dr. Mohammad Akhter selected and narrowed down the pool of applicants to:

Herbal Alternatives in Northwest DC

Takoma Wellness Center, Inc. In Northwest DC

Metropolitan Wellness Center Corporation in Southeast DC

and VentureForth, LLC DBA Cneter City Care in Northwest DC

One of the locations is just blocks from the White House, two others are within blocks of the US Capitol, and the final spot is next to the Takoma Metro station, almost right on the Maryland state line.

The applicants have to apply for business licenses, building permits, certificates of occupancy, and meet other regulatory requirements before getting registration to operate a medical marijuana dispensary.
