COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WUSA) A skinny dipping prank at the University of Maryland turned ugly over the weekend when a woman alleged that she was groped and University Police issued an alert to the entire campus.

The incident has sparked an online debate over whether the victims are to blame for exposing themselves to dangerous consequences.

"LOL, had it coming" wrote one person posting to the Diamondback newspaper's website.  Another called the incident a "slut swim."

"Why did they have it coming? Because they were females?" another reader snapped back.

According to an alert from University Police, a group of women had stripped to their underwear and were swimming in the landmark fountain in the center of the McKeldin Mall on campus at about 12:30 early Saturday morning.

The group was approached by about 8 to 10 men and women who snatched the skinny dippers' clothes and ran.

Meanwhile, one of the victims claimed her buttocks were grabbed by one of the thieves, which prompted the theft and sexual assault alert.
