DICKERSON, Md. (WUSA) -- The passenger in a fiery overnight crash in Dickerson that left one person dead and another victim seriously injured has been identified.
Police say that 23-year-old Oscar Armando Chavez Martinez of Germantown was the passenger in the car accident on Route 28 (Dickerson Rd.) at Mount Ephraim Road that killed the driver on Tuesday morning. Martinez was flown to the Cowley Shock Trauma Center for his life-threatening injuries and remains in serious condition.
Police are not identifying the female driver at this time.
According to the police, the Honda Civic Martinez and the driver were in was traveling eastbound in the 22000 block of Dicerson Rd and as it approached Mount Ephraim Road, the car left the roadway and hit a railroad bridge overpass. The car caught fire.
Witnesses were able to pull the passenger out of the Civic before it was completely engulfed in flames. They were not able to rescue the driver. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Route 28 was shut down at Mount Ephraim Road, near the Dickerson MARC station. The road reopened just before 5:30 a.m.
