UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (WUSA) -- It's a case that even veteran prosecutors found extremely disturbing.  Now, the case is closed.

It was back on July 12 of last year.  That's when Craig Brooks came to the Bowie home of 44 year-old David Williams posing as a Pepco employee.  Brooks walked all around the house talking about various electrical issues but in reality, he was just casing the house.  The next day, Brooks and his co-defendant, John Haston, returned to the house.  This time, they tied Williams up, shot him to death, and then robbed the house of money, coins, and children's videos.

Brooks pleaded guilty last month.  On Monday, after two and a half hours of deliberations, a jury convicted Haston of first-degree murder.

Deputy State's Attorney Tara Harrison called Williams's murder entirely senseless, and she's hoping Monday's swift verdict sends an unmistakable message.

"Anyone who chooses to act in this way, who chooses to rob, to murder the citizens of this county, we will do everything that we can to bring them to justice," Harrison said.
