RIVERDALE, Md. (WUSA) -- A man has been charged after crashing his car right into a woman's bedroom while she was in bed asleep on Sunday.
Prince George's Police say the accident occurred at approximately 3:35 a.m Sunday at an apartment building on the 6800 block of Riverdale Road.
Michelle Sawah said, "I wake up and the car tire was on my hand. I started screaming. The tire was still rolling and I could smell the gas."
"I don't know what will be my last tomorrow. I just thank God I'm alive. I will praise God more because he saved my life; he saved my life. I thought I was dead. I can't believe I'm standing here today."
Sawah was transported to a hospital and released.
Akoswa J. Haynes told investigators she was pulling into a parking space and accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake. But thanks to a tip, police say they determined that 39-year-old David Archbald Smith was actually driving the car.
Smith has been cited with:
• Driving without a license
• Negligent driving
• Failure to immediately return and remain at scene of accident involving bodily injury
• Failure to return and remain at scene of accident involving attended property damage
• Failure of vehicle driver in accident to report property damage to nearest police
• Attempt by driver to elude uniform police by fleeing on foot.
Police say Haynes was cited for knowingly giving false accident report information.
