WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- The National Memorial Day Concert began las it always does on Sunday night: plenty of good music, thousands of enthusiastic people and, of course, an abundance of patriotism.
But then, right around 8:45, just after singer Natalie Cole finished performing, the concert was stopped and the National Mall was evacuated as a powerful storm system approached.
PBS, which was broadcasting the concert live nationwide and to U.S. troops all over the world, immediately switched over to a taped broadcast of last year's concert.
Organizers were unable to reschedule the concert.
