WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- As we all know, the Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of the summer vacation season.
This year, AAA predicts more than 34 million people will travel 50 miles or more. That's a 1.2% increase over last year.
Nowadays, travelers can tap into the power of their smartphones to find discounts on the go.
With vacation season upon us, Google has been tracking the search terms Washingtonians are using the most.
"in particular, there in the DC area folks with the last month or so have searched for 'vacation ideas.' That's up about 26 percent, and 'cheap flights' have increased and 8 percent," shared Google Travel Technologist Daniel Sieberg.
