WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Police have identified a man who died after an officer-involved shooting in Southeast DC late Tuesday night.
Gwen Crump, spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police Department, says 41-year-old Dominique Campbell of DC died in shooting in the 4200 block of 6th Street around 10:45 p.m.
According to Crump, an officer got a call for a man with a gun at that location and when the officer approached the man matching the description of that suspect, the man pulled a weapon and fired on the officer. She then says that there was an exchange of gunfire.
In a change from an earlier report from police that said the man was pronounced dead at the scene, Crump says that Campbell was taken to a hospital and then pronounced dead.
Police officials say one of the officers involved in the shooting was taken to the hospital with a minor graze wound. He was treated and released.
MPD detectives are also investigating two additional overnight shootings in Southeast. Police say one man was shot in the leg in the 4300 block of 3rd Street late Monday night. Officers also responded to a double shooting in the 1500 block of V Street. One victim was shot in the arm, the second man was hit in the foot. All three victim's injuries are considered non-life-threatening.
