WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) - It's kind of like a classroom chalkboard beckoning the bold children to scrawl out a crazy thought when the teacher leaves the room.
"I'm writing I want to be photographed in Vogue."
But it's those three words... "Before I die... " that really get people to grab the chalk and finish the sentence on a public chalkboard at Q and 14th Streets near Logan Circle, NW.
" I want to sit on a Glacier before they melt away."
"Visit every continent."
"I wrote to see the seven seas before I die."
A local couple put up the chalkboard in front of an old dry cleaners that under construction. They apparently did it without permission, but nobody seems to mind, so far.
Some people take the board and its question very seriously. One man wrote, "To stay sober."
A young women wrote, "To pay my parents back for the all the money they spent on my college."
Many people write about love and marriage.
Roger and Rod, a couple for five years are hoping to soon get legally married in their home state of Washington.
The majority of these hopes and dreams have to do with making the world a better place...finding cures for cancer and HIV and helping the less fortunate.
"I think it's inspirational. It puts out words out there and doesn't let anybody or outselves hold us back," said Danny.
A man working nearby thought for a few seconds and said, "The thing I want to do before I die, make amends for all the wrongs I've done. That's the only thing I can think of."
Maybe that's something that could be on everybody's bucket list.
