BRANDYWINE, Md. (WUSA) -- Maryland State Police have reopened all northbound lanes of Crain Highway after a deadly crash forced a closure for northbound traffic in Brandywine.

State Police tell 9 NEWS NOW the single-vehicle crash occurred in the northbound lanes of Crain Highway (Rt. 301) at Oak Barrel Court early Wednesday morning.

Police confirm the driver of the vehicle was trapped inside the wreckage when they arrived on the scene. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The crash led to a closure of all northbound lanes of Crain Highway north of Dyson Road.  Police were able to completely reopen the roadway by 7:00 a.m.

Right now investigators cannot say why the man lost control of the vehicle, nor can they confirm this morning's thunderstorms contributed to the crash.

The victim's identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
