WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- May 1st is National 'STOP THE TEXTS' Day. The Ad Council, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the State Attorneys General are spreading awareness about the risks of distracted driving.
Did you know distracted driving is the number one killer of American teens? In 2009, nearly 500,000 people were injured and over 5,000 were killed due to various forms of distracted driving, including texting while driving.
To participate and help raise awareness, post "STOP THE TEXTS" on your Facebook and Twitter pages Tuesday. For more information, go to http://stopthetexts.adcouncil.org.
