WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) - On the campus of Georgetown University on Monday, you can hear the time... But you can't see it.
The hands of the Healy Clock Tower disappeared overnight.
It's a big offense here at Georgetown to do it. So the general feeling is, props to the person who did the prank.
Ask anyone on campus who's behind it and they'll say:
"Some senior. Definitely a senior guy. Multiple senior guys. "
"As long as anyone can remember, people have been trying to weasel their way up there and steal the clock hands. I don't know how they've been able to do it but it's a tradition and I think everyone tries to do it by their senior year."
The last time it was pulled off was in 2005. The two students even posed with the Healy Hands and posted the picture on Facebook.
After that, the University beefed up the clock tower's security.
But seven years later, it's happened again. A University spokeswoman says. "Georgetown's Department of Public Safety is investigating the missing hands on the Healy Clock Tower. Breaking into this area and removing the clock hands involves serious violations and safety concerns."
Concerns like...how did they get up there?
The last pranksters to pull it off got one year of academic probation. But this time, students say the university should lighten up, several agreeing that the school should have a little humor with it. They said that it is a tradition but whoever did it should be reprimanded a little but nothing serious, a slap on the wrist but no serious consequences. It's all in good fun.
