RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - While it wasn't the whole jackpot, five Virginia tickets each won a piece of Friday's historic Mega Millions lottery drawing.
Virginia Lottery officials say that while no Virginia ticket matched all six numbers for the estimated $640 million, five tickets matched the first five numbers to win $250,000 each.
Those tickets were bought in Fredericksburg, North Tazewell, Richmond, Vinton and Virginia Beach.
An estimated 14.3 million Mega Millions tickets were bought in Virginia on Friday alone. Three tickets bought in Illinois, Kansas and Maryland will split the historic jackpot.
Seven Mega Millions jackpots have been won in Virginia since the game began in 2002.
