SunTrust Rock n Roll USA Marathon Sold Out

WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Organizers with the SunTrust Rock 'n' Roll USA Marathon and CareFirst Rock 'n' Roll USA Half Marathon say the event on Saturday is sold out. They say more than 21,000 patricipants are expected at the event.

According to organizers, 62% of the participants are female and 17% of participants are from D.C. Thirty five percent of the runners are from Virginia, which has the largest state representation. There are  runners from all 50 states and 34 countries.

One in 4 people will be participating in their first half marathon, say the organizers.

The marathon starts and finishes at RFK Stadium in D.C.

In addition to the marathon and half marathon, 1,000 children will finish the final mile of a marathon training program with ING KiDs Rock D.C. and there will be a two-day Health and Fitness Expo at the DC Armory starting Thursday.

More than 40 bands will be stationed along the course at 28 entertainment stages. Musical act Switchfoot will play at the finish line festival.

According to organizers, charities have raised more than $266 million through the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series since 1998 and 840 charity participants have raised over $700,000 for different causes through the event.
