WASHINGTON (CBSDC) - The Washington Redskins busy Monday continued with the release of safety Oshiomogho Atogwe.

His release was expected according to 106.7 The Fan's Grant Paulsen.

The Redskins signed the highly coveted free agent to a five-year, $26 million prior to the start of the NFL Lockout last season.

Atogwe was scheduled to earn $3.4 million in 2012 and 2013, $3.6 million in 2014 and $3.7 million in 2015 according to NFLPA records.

Atogwe's release also comes on the heels of a $36 million cap penalty levied against the team that can be divided between the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the NFL imposed the $36 million reduction on the Redskins because they deliberately dumped salaries into the uncapped 2010 season.

The Dallas Cowboys were also penalized $30 million for the same reason.

The money will be reallocated around the league with each team picking up roughly $1.6 million in extra cap space as a result. The New Orleans Saints and Oakland Raiders are exempt from the boost, but it's unclear whether they are also being penalized.

The Redskins also released veteran fullback Mike Sellers on Monday.
