PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (WUSA) -- The parents of a 32-year-old mother were the ones who discovered the remains of a newborn in the trunk of their daughter's car, Calvert County authorities revealed late Friday.
Calvert County Sheriff Mike Evans described the remains as those of a "fetus or newborn," in a press conference Friday afternoon.
Authorities were called at 6:39 p.m. Thursday to a mobile home the 5400 block of Hallowing Point Road in Prince Frederick.
The parents of the woman who lives in the trailer were "cleaning out her car," when they made the horrible discovery, Evans said.
The mom in the case is also the mother of three other children. The children are in the court-ordered custody of grandparents while the investigation continues, authorities said.
An autopsy is being conducted my Maryland's Medical Examiner. The cause of death is unknown and could take more than a month to determine, Evan said. No criminal charges have been filed.
The car had been parked in front of a trailer home at the address for weeks without being moved, a neighbor said.
Residents of the home include toddler twins and an elementary aged boy, neighbors said.
