WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- A member of the famed Tuskegee Airmen of World War II joined us on our noon show on Friday. They were the first ever group of African American aviators in the U.S. to fight facism in Europe, while fighting racism at home.

Lieutenant Colonel Bob Friend is the oldest surviving Tuskegee airman. Col. Friend flew 142 combat missions over Europe during World War II.

Lt. Col. Friend said he thinks the movie "Red Tails" is a fair portrayal of what happened, and says he think George Lucas did a "fine job with a tough problem." According to Friend, Lucas successfully highlighting the Tuskegee Airmen as a group, not individually.
