Prince George's Officers Suspected Of Fabricating Shooting Story

BRENTWOOD, Md. (WUSA) -- Two Prince George's County police officers have been suspended and are under criminal investigation for allegedly fabricating a story about a police-involved shooting Friday night.

No one was injured when an officer's pistol fired during the incident, which was captured on a security camera in the 4900 block of Perry St.

Sources say the video shows the gun going off as the officer uses it to strike a suspect in the head after tackling him from behind.

The video has been sent to the Prince George's County State's Attorney for further investigation, according to Carlos Acosta, a newly appointed Inspector General overseeing the Prince George's County Police Department.

The officers reported the gun fired when the suspect tried to disarm the officer, an account that is not supported by the video evidence, Acosta said.

The incident occurred after police on an anti-robbery task force confronted two suspects at the Lowest Price gas station and convenience store in the 3800 block of Rhode Island Ave at about 9:40 p.m. Friday.   The shooting happened after a brief foot chase.

Only one suspended officer has been identified.  He is Cpl. Donald Taylor, a 13-year veteran who was assigned to the Robbery Suppression Task Force.

The suspect involved is 19-year-old Ryan Keith Dorm.  All charges against Dorm have been dropped, prosecutors announced late Tuesday.
