Jorge Chavez of Frederick Arrested For Hit-And-Run That Injured Another Driver

NEW MARKET, Md. (WUSA) -- A man who fled after his vehicle ran off the road and hit a truck in New Market has been arrested.

Maryland State Police say troopers, and officers with Frederick County Sheriff's Office and CHART responded to a hit and run crash on westbound I-70 near MD Rt. 75 (Green Valley Road) on Thursday  at approximately 1:18 p.m.

Their investigation revealed that 21-year-old Jorge Chavez of Frederick was driving his Honda on westbound I-70 at MD Rt. 75. with another man in the passenger seat when one of the tires blew out and he lost control of the car. The car ran off the roadway onto the ramp from southbound MD Rt. 75 to westbound I-70 and hit a truck driven by Patricia Doggett. His car then struck a guardrail and then came to rest at the side of the road.

Maryland State Police Chavez and his passenger fled the scene on foot. About an hour later, a trooper saw the two men entering a vehicle at Worchester Drive and Kent Street. Both men were taken into custody.

Chavez was charged with numerous motor vehicle violations including, driving without a license and leaving the scene of a personal injury collision. He was ordered held on a $7,500 bond and is being held on a detainer by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The passenger was released without being charged.

Patricia Doggett was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital where she was treated and released for what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries, say Maryland State Police.

Charges are pending on the owner of the vehicle Chavez was driving, according to Maryland State Police.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
