Sandy Stancil Arrested For Trying To Rob Police Officers With A Can Of Tear Gas

EDMONSTON, Md. (WUSA) -- A Hyattsville man is accused of trying to rob two off-duty D.C. police officers who were buying fuel at a gas station in Edmonston, Md.

According to Edmonston Police Department Chief Stephen Walker, 51-year-old Sandy Stancil approached the two officers at a Sunoco station in the 4800 block of Kenilworth Avenue, brandishing a knife and a can of tear gas. 

Stancil allegedly demanded money and the officers drew their weapons, identifying themselves and ordering him to the ground, says Walker. 

According to Walker, the Stancil tried to flee but the officers caught him.

Edmonston Police responded to the scene and Stancil was arrested for attempted robbery.

Stancil is being held in the county jail.
