WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- Imagine you try to on a complete wardrobe without ever entering a dressing room or even deal with a sales person.

If it sounds futuristic, well, the future is not that far off.  This is the premise of Cisco's StyleMe.

"What they've want to do is go help them shop or be fun or actually encourage them to try new stuff.  And, that's what the brainchild behind StyleMe is," says Cisco's senior director Lisa Fretwell.

Retailers know consumers like online and mobile shopping features like product information and user-generated reviews.

This year's National Retail Federation Expo showed off technology that integrates a lot of that with the in-store experience.

"It really enables the consumer to really drive the experience, and get all the data they would get from, typically, an online shopping experience, but get it in the store," Intel's Michelle Tinsely.

Intel developed this in-store kiosk with Macy's, giving customers freedom to freely explore products.  And the store associate helps make the sale.

The innovation gives discerning shoppers more options than ever to research a purchase.

National Retail Federation's Daniel Butler says, "The customer is telling us, you have this technology, so don't just show me the technology, use the technology to give me a better experience when I'm in the store."

And, in  this still sluggish economy, a happy customer makes a happy retailer, too.
