WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- A suspect is now in custody after a late night police chase that began in Virginia and ended with a barricade situation in a Southeast DC neighborhood.

Fairfax County Police tell 9 NEWS NOW a suspicious vehicle was spotted by officers in the area of Route 1 at North Kings Highway around 10:00 Thursday night. A check on the vehicle's plates alerted the officers to outstanding felony warrants on the owner, at which point they attempted to pull over the vehicle. The driver then took off, leading the officers on a chase across the Wilson Bridge and up I-295 in the District. The chase ended when the male suspect bailed out of the vehicle in the area of 13th and K Streets in Southeast.

DC Police responded with numerous officers flooding the area around the 1200 block of Potomac Avenue, where they believed the suspect had barricaded himself. DC Police have not said whether or not the suspect was alone. DC and Fairfax County officials are not releasing specific information on his felony warrants.

Police set up a command post near the barricade scene at 12th Street and Potomac Avenue.  Several intersections in the area of the 1200 block of Potomac Avenue were closed for approximately 5 1/2 hours.  All roads reopened around 5:35 a.m.

DC Police say the suspect was taken into custody without incident.  The suspect, who has not yet been identified, will be charged in DC as a Fugitive from Justice.
