Kevin Ray, charged with home invasion and sexual assault in Prince George's and Montgomery Counties

ROCKVILLE, MD (WUSA) -- Citing his "horrendous" criminal record, a Maryland judge ordered Kevin Ray held without bond in those home invasions in Bethesda, Wheaton and Temple Hills.

Prosecutors say Ray told police he went on the spree after his partner was killed while they were holding up drug dealers in DC.

Prosecutors say this is a guy who has now admitted these crimes: to pointing a gun at mothers and babies and threatening to kill them; and to raping women before taking off with their money and their cars.

Kevin Ray used crutches and spent most of the hearing hunched over groaning like he was in a great deal of pain. Authorities say he was injured when he ran from police and resisted arrest when they cornered him in North Carolina. "I'm not going to speculate as to whether or not he was in real pain," said Montgomery County State's Attorney John McCarthy.

Prosecutors say they don't have to speculate about the crimes. In a Wheaton garage, they say Ray pointed a gun at a woman and threatened to kill her and her baby if she failed to hand over her money and her credit cards.

In Bethesda they say he forced a 14 year old boy to tie up his own mother, sexually assaulted the housekeeper, and forced her to shower because he knew his DNA was in the sex offender registry.

In Temple Hills he allegedly again threatened to kill a baby, bound six people with zip ties, and raped a young mother.

"There were children involved in each incident," says McCarthy. "There were threats to kill not only the women who were the primary victims in these cases, but also their children."

The prosecutor says Ray's criminal career had already seen him charged with 1st degree murder and 1st degree rape. "This defendant has prior convictions for manslaughter, armed robbery, and use of a handgun in the commission of a crime of violence," says McCarthy.

Police say they're still looking for a second man who was at the scene in Bethesda.
