SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA) -- Police have identified two people killed early Thursday morning in a single-car crash in Silver Spring, Md. Authorities say the young women who were killed on University Boulevard East at Piney Branch Road are 22-year-old Jenice Richards and 19-year-old Tamara Johnson.

Eighteen-year-old Desaleen James received serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.

The crash happened just after 3:00 a.m. Thursday along University Boulevard East north of Piney Branch Road.

Police say that the black car was heading eastbound when for some reason it left the roadway and landed in the front yard of a home. According to police, Richards and Johnson died at the scene.

A man on the scene identified himself as an uncle of one of the victims. "She works and goes to school...she just graduated from high school, thinking about going to college," said Carl Morris, who told 9NEWS NOW he is the uncle of 19-year-old Tamara Johnson.

The Montgomery County Police Department told 9NEWS NOW just one car was involved in the crash. 9NEWS NOW video shows the car up on a brick wall and barely recognizable. A reconstruction team will be on the scene for several hours. Police will try to determine how the car went airborne and landed on the wall.

Police do not know at this time if alcohol or speed were factors. They do believe the young women were coming back from a club in D.C. when this accident happened Thursday morning.

University Boulevard East was closed early Thursday morning.  Westbound University Blvd. reopened around 5:45 a.m. while the eastbound lanes reopened hours later.
