WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) - According to AAA Mid-Atlantic, nearly two million parking tickets have been issued in Washington, D.C. in the past 14 months.

It says more than 1.6 million parking tickets were written between October 1, 2010 and September 30, 2011 (the 2011 Fiscal Year for DC), according to District Department Of Public Works reports. Since October 2011, the District DPW has issued 315,000 parking tickets, says AAA Mid-Atlantic.

AAA Mid-Atlantic says that's an average of nearly 5,300 parking tickets per day, and by May 2011, DC had collected $50.1 million in parking ticket fines. The organization says that the final revenue figures haven't been released for the 2011 fiscal year yet but taking the May calculation into account, "the District was on pace to top the $80.4 million it netted in parking ticket revenue during FY 2010."
